Technical Report on Mechanical Smoke Control Systems
This report presents research, technical rationale, and methodology for mechanical smoke control systems to support archetype building design of up to six storeys containing a residential occupancy served by a single exit stair (SES). The information supports potential approaches towards alternative solutions compliance and is not intended for
prescriptive
compliance with any particular
building code or by-law.
Six different mechanical smoke control systems have been reviewed and discussed. Two systems (Direct 1 and Direct 2) were evaluated fully using advanced numerical modelling.
