LMDG Building Code Consultants has perpared research, rationale and methodology for mechanical smoke control systems in six-storey residential buildings served by a single exit stair. The technical information supports potential approaches towards alternative solutions compliance and is not intended for prescriptive compliance with any particular building code or by-law. Six different mechanical smoke control systems have been reviewed and discussed. Two systems (Direct 1 and Direct 2) were evaluated fully using advanced numerical modelling.
